Neighbors kicked off a short month with a short meeting at the February, 2002 gathering of the Hyde Park Neighborhood Association.
Former HPNA President Niyanta Spelman suggested that it was time to
really celebrate the neighborhood's victory and hinted that a party some time
in March might be just the thing. Merrymakers are urged to stay tune.
In keeping with the season, love was in the air; much of it directed at
Neighborhood Planning Chairwoman Karen McGraw as she announced the final
adoption of the Neighborhood Combining and Conservation District by the City
Council on January 31st. Neighbors cheered as Karen related a late night motion
by Councilman Daryl Slusher to adopt the plan and make it effective
immediately. The motion passed six to one.
Public Safety Chairman Bruce Nadig announced that the safe crossing lights on 45th street had been repaired. It is believed that they were vandalized some time in January.
A delegation of neighbors from the area surrounding 49th and Red River expressed concerns over a pending request before the City to allow a day care to be run in the area. A motion was adopted by the Association directing its Development Review Committee to meet with proponents of the day care, gather more information, and make a recommendation to HPNA Co Presidents Bob Breeze and Gary Penn as to the suitability of that location for a day care. The motion then authorized Bob and Gary to write a letter to the City expressing the Review Committee's findings.
Our co-Presidents reminded neighbors that volunteers are still needed for the Homes Tour this coming Father's Day. A number of helping hands are still needed in preparing for this most Hyde Park of weekends. Anyone wishing to assist the Tour is asked to contact Bob Breeze at 452-3850.
Donations are still being sought to defray the cost of the new Shipe Park wall and arch. Admirers of the work who wish to contribute are urged to call Suzee Brooks at 459-5115.
Although Bob was able to adjourn the meeting in just over half an hour,
neighbors lingered to talk, meet first time visitors, and plan for good times
ahead. Don't miss the next meeting of the Hyde Park Neighborhood Association
scheduled for March 4th.
