Clarification from/about the Ney
I am writing to correct inaccurate information I mistakenly gave in the Hyde Park Neighborhood Association June meeting regarding the Elisabet Ney Museum Board of Directors and the Elisabet Ney Museum Association, Inc. Following is a corrected account based upon a review of the Museum's records after the meeting. The Austin City Council established an Elisabet Ney Museum Board of Directors with the Texas Fine Arts Association in 1978 to serve in an advisory capacity to the City regarding the Museum. This agreement superceded one established with the TFAA in 1941 when it deeded the Ney building and property to the City of Austin that year. In 1981, citizens formed the Elisabet Ney Museum Association, Inc., a separate 501(c)(3) non-profit, which raised funding for the Ney Museum's restoration. In 1986, the Elisabet Ney Museum Association assumed operation of the Museum's fee-based education programs. These programs became the "Elisabet Ney Sculpture Conservatory" offered and administered by the Association independent of the Museum. The Elisabet Ney Museum Board of Directors was disbanded in 1994 due to lack of activity. The Elisabet Ney Museum Association became the Austin Association of Sculptors, Inc. in 2001. If I can provide further details or any information on the Museum, please call 458-2255 or e-mail me at mary.blackmon@ci.austin.tx.us. Thank you.
Sincerely,
