than $500.00 for the Austin State Hospital's volunteer program. Part of the
profits from Hyde Park Neighborhood Association Tour ticket sales will also
go to the ASH volunteer program this year. We hope to have final numbers on
expenses by the time of the August General Meeting so the amount of this
contribution can be voted upon by the Members. HPNA has developed a custom
of dedicating a portion of Homes Tour money to worthy causes in the
neighborhood. In past years Shipe Park and Elizabeth Ney Museum have been
beneficiaries of Homes Tour proceeds.
More people to thank! The Homes Tour Committee devoted a lot of time to
preparations for this year's Tour, especially in developing the booklet and
securing ads for it. Katie Vignery, Gail Minault and Ruth
Parshall researched and wrote the sections on the houses and the
history of the neighborhood, while Peter Flagg Maxson edited them.

Janet Green, Anne Holt and John Lawyer did great work
on ads sales and getting publicity. Janet also coordinated the musicians
and dancers. Anne Stevenson did the design, layout and art work for
the booklet which was printed by neighbor Jack Taylor's Priority
Copy. We would also like to thank Marc Burckhardt, Sean Carneige
, Evan Smith and Rob Wallace of Whitley Printing for the
poster and its printing. Marcus Ollington did the map for the booklet
while Michael Capochiano coordinated ticket sales, Alan Marburger
arranged for the buses and conductors, George Wyche did the
Homes Tour pages for the www.hydepark-na.org web page, and Margot Thomas
coordinated the Friends of the Tour sponsors. Our thanks also go out to
the House Captains who recruited and led the many docents at the houses.
These included: Glen Coleman, Denise Girard, Stan and Rae
Kozinisky, Celeste Cromack and Martha Campbell.

and Earl Straight, James and Barbara Strickland
and Don and Vallorie Balsamo also acted as House Captains in addition
to furnishing Homes to be toured. A big thanks goes to the Hyde Park Church
of Christ for the use of their building and parking. We also thank Cecil
Pennington for handling the promotional street banners, Bert
Cromack for handling the marker signs, and Bob Breeze for
obtaining and putting up the promotional signs. Bob, of course, served as
Co-Chairman of the Tour Committee along with myself (Gary Penn). We
would also like to thank the many docents, bus conductors, musicians,
dancers and other volunteers.
The Tour went smoothly because there is a great deal of accumulated
experience in the neighborhood among people willing to turn out and make
use of their knowledge. The number of people who participate as volunteers
in the Tour probably exceeds the membership rolls of the Neighborhood
Association, possibly because it is an enjoyable experience. We will doing
it again next year at the same time and will again need organizers and
volunteers. If YOU would like to be on next year's committee or to chair
it, now is not too early to starting thinking seriously about doing so.
Please contact Bob or myself if you have ideas about houses or types of
houses to include, areas of the neighborhood to emphasize, the booklet or
its contents, promotional possibilities or any of the many things that need
to be considered, decided upon and carried out.
