Llano to Bastrop

firefly trees twine near the red granite brook
moss clumping groundwards
broken blocks garnished
shiny-split glass angles refracting
moon-glad face

hundreds of pores suspend across
from torrents hill-washed
grey stone bubbles, tubs for bathing in April
algae dishes for gnat breeding in June

oak leaf light
entreats spring onions and basil
on humus nourished with last year's unshedding
fully processed in beetle casings

long before the hummingbird's return
after last-frost
flourishes forth the argent glory
of the Mexican plum
o-erarching even the stately yellow protrusions
of the Mesquite
