Hyde Park Crime Report
cont'd from page 11
be showing all of your neat, valuable stuff to anyone who might be around
- put them in your trunk before you drive somewhere and park the car).
The first week in September there was a burglary of a
residence in the 4800 block of Caswell. The burglary took place during the
day while the residents were away. Items stolen include jewelry, a guitar
and a checkbook. A crime scene unit was able to get some finger prints.
When making a report to APD's 311 system it is very important that you
give as much information as possible. Since the 311 system was established
the phone operators have been taking many police reports. Unfortunately
they are not as thoroughly trained as officers are. When making a police
report be sure to give information such as the time of day that the crime
occurred, where entry and exit were made (in the case of a burglary), and
any other information you may feel is important.
APD has produced a "Stranger Danger" video. The video was
created by the department to educate and to raise awareness about child
safety issues. It is not intended to alarm or scare children or their
families. The video is available for viewing or downloading at:
www.ci.austin.tx.us / police / strangerdanger.htm. To schedule a
presentation for a school, church, or civic organization, call APD's
Office of Community Liaison at 459-1877.
During the summer (sorry for the late report on this one -
it took a while for me to get all of the information), law enforcement
officials discovered a drug lab operating in a house on Rowena Avenue.
It is reported that the lab was probably manufacturing methamphetamine.
Because of the dangerous chemicals involved, the Austin Fire Department's
Hazardous Materials team was called to the scene to help with the cleanup.
One suspect was arrested and a warrant has been issued for another person.
In order to make our neighborhood safer for everyone, please
report all criminal or suspicious activity to the police department. Call
911 for emergencies, and call 311 for all other police matters.
If there is any crime news you know of that should be reported in the
Pecan Press, please feel free to contact me, Bruce Nadig, by e-mail
motorbruce@hotmail.com or
by phone (323-0779).
