October Meeting
...cont'd from page 4

Gary Penn     Gary Penn and Planning Committee maven Karen McGraw related the marathon hearing that resulted in a small victory for HPNA in its request that the City rescind its grant of an extension allowing more time for Hyde Park Baptist Church to supplement site plans in the area. Briefly, the Church is appealing the denial of the appeal. If the City Council upholds the denial, (actually a rescinding), the Church, it is believed, will then have to keep its site plans within specifications set by the recently adopted Neighborhood Combining and Conservation District. Anyone who has questions, or enjoys sentences such as the preceding one, may contact Co-President Gary Penn.

Lisa Huffman     Lisa Huffman from the neighborhood north of 51st addressed the gathering with concerns about a development that is being proposed in that area. A developer is requesting a zoning change for three plots just west of the State Cemetery. Although none of the cemetery's residents are opposing the rezone, a petition is circulating in the area to keep the plots residential. Anyone who has questions is urged to contact Lisa at 452-7347.

Cathy Echols     Longtime neighborhood watchdog Cathy Echols gave neighbors an update on the Triangle Project. A new developer is involved with the project. At this point the developer has agreed to stay within the confines of the agreement reached three years ago. The developer may exceed the agreement by actually decreasing the number of residential units on the site. Cathy went on to announce that she is stepping down as HPNA's representative to the Austin Neighborhoods Council.
A motion was made by Dorothy Richter thanking Cathy for her tireless efforts on behalf of the quality of life in Hyde Park. Calls for a second to the motion were drowned in applause for both women and a smiling Bob Breeze adjourned the meeting.
