Ruby's BBQ Submission of Proposals and Requests to HPNA:
Recently we have had several individuals and groups request that they be allowed to make brief presentations at the HPNA General Meeting. Usually, but not always, these issues have been related to developments or building changes in and around Hyde Park. The requestor usually wants HPNA to take some action in regard to their issue, even if that action is something as simple as a letter of support or opposition. While we are always willing to do our best to accommodate these requests, there are a number of complications that can occur.
We would like to present some suggestions that would allow all of us the best opportunity to avoid any problems. Whenever possible, requests for action, support, opposition, etcetera should be made to the HPNA Steering Committee. By doing this the Steering Committee can evaluate the request and resolve any potential problems in advance of the general membership meeting. This will also make best use of time at the general meeting.
For example, a resident recently wanted a letter of support from HPNA to take to the city's Historical Review Board. This request was made shortly before the general meeting. It wasn't until shortly before the meeting that most of us had even seen the plans for the project. Fortunately for all parties involved, the desired changes were all very reasonable and well planned. However, had there been serious objections a letter of support might not have been approved.
The HPNA Steering Committee meets the second Thursday of each month. Please contact Bruce Nadig motorbruce@hotmail.com or 323-0779 or contact Gary Penn garypenn@swbell.net or 452-3103 if you have any topic that you would like to bring before the committee. If at all possible, please allow a couple of day's notice so that we will be adequately prepared to address your concerns.
