Blast from the Past Dept.: "Brightest Women in Austin" Hang in Hyde Park (This item, courtesy of local historian Peter Flagg Maxson of 4212 Ave. F. Then as now, the 'hood seemed to attract sharp and talented women! )
For decades (ca. 1911-1950), there was an Austin publication quite aptly called GOSSIP. It's great fun to go through at the Austin History Center, and has useful information. Below is an excerpt from the 24 February 1916 issue of GOSSIP, 87 years ago:

"The members of the Hyde Park Reading Club are looking forward to an open meeting to be held tomorrow evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Murray Ramsey, Hyde Park. The husbands of the members will be honored guests. Mrs. Ramsey is president of the club, which is composed of some of the brightest women in Austin."
Mr. Ramsey was son of nurseryman F.T. ("Fruit Tree") Ramsey, and the fine Ramsey house stood immediately north of the post office at 4312 Avenue E (now Speedway).
Down the Aisle Dept.: The Hyde Park Neighborhood Association would like to congratulate Harry Pape and Karen Chapman on their recent wedding. They exchanged their vows at an undisclosed location in Hyde Park on Saturday, January 11, 2003. We wish them many, many happy and prosperous years together.
