Yard Parking On February Agenda
The issue of yard parking will be on the agenda for the
February 2003 Hyde Park Neighborhood Association. At this meeting we will
discuss the city's yard parking ordinance.
Under the ordinance, neighborhood associations can "opt
in" or "opt out" of participation in this ordinance. If a neighborhood
votes to opt in, all off driveway parking in front and side yards would be
prohibited. At the conclusion of the discussion, we will be taking a vote
as to whether the Hyde Park Neighborhood Association would like to opt in
or opt out.
People on both sides of this issue have very passionate
feelings. If you live within the boundaries of HPNA and you would like your
voice to be heard, you should attend the February meeting. The only time
the city will consider applications from neighborhood associations is
during the month of February. Unless you want to wait until February of
2004 to have your opinion heard, be sure to attend the February 2003
meeting.
The General Meeting of the Hyde Park Neighborhood
Association will take place on Monday, February 3, 2003. The meeting will
be held from 7:00-8:30pm at The Hyde Park United Methodist Church (at the
northeast corner of Speedway and 40th Street).
Web Design Assistance Needed
The Hyde Park Neighborhood Association is in great need
of web design assistance. There are two projects that need work. The first
is regular, ongoing design work on the HPNA web site. Second is assistance
with the graphic design for the 2003 Hyde Park Homes Tour. This is an
ideal opportunity for a UT student (or just about any student for that
matter) to contribute to the neighborhood. Anyone willing to help on these
projects would not only gain some valuable experience, but also would have
more material for their personal work resume.

Traffic In Hyde Park
Recently we have been having several traffic problems in
Hyde Park. I have been made most aware of the problems in one particular
area, however I understand that these same issues are present throughout
the Hyde Park area.
Currently, the biggest concerns center around speeding
and the running of stop signs. This is particularly dangerous in a
residential neighborhood like ours, where we have a lot of folks who walk
(both with and without children), bike and jog. On residential streets the
speed limit is 30 mph. Even along sections of 45th Street the limit is 30.
