above the ground. Once there, he had no way to force open my balcony door, and my landlord's wife was getting suspicious. Malayalum notwithstanding, she told him to return the next day when her husband was home.

At six pm on day five Sangeeth had to be at the airport for his flight to Finland. At five pm he was at my apartment where, armed with a coat hanger borrowed from my landlord, he made his way back to my balcony and forced open the balcony door. Then he rushed home and packed, met with Nimesh long enough to swap my apartment key for his tickets (which Nimesh had picked up for him), and headed for the airport and Finland.
The Culprit!
Later the same day Nimesh arrived with his wife Sunali and switched on the light. A few moments later, everything went black. He went down to the security guard to borrow matches and a candle. Candles are common in Bangalore because blackouts are common. There were candles in my apartment on the credenza, but that was across the (currently unseeable) pile of dog poop. Upstairs he groped around to try to find a breaker box but ended up taking care of the animals in the dark. Just as suddenly as the lights had died -- and for equally mysterious reasons -- they revived.

By then, my team was being regaled daily with stories of the happenings at Lorre's apartment, so it wasn't surprising on day six that Nimesh brought along another team member, Anirban. This reignited Brigid's suspiciousness but didn't result in any other misadventure.

On day seven, Brigid allowed Nimesh to walk her for the first time, but by then, there didn't seem to be much point in moving her to his apartment.

On day eight, I returned to Bangalore, my apartment, and my lovable but difficult dog, who neglected to mention a word about the chaos she caused while I was gone.
