Whoever finds along the highway
a bumper, part of Scarlet
the car she drove into her own sanity,
finds an impression of her heartbeat,
the imprint of her first breath
free of pharmaceutical chains,
safe from projected demons
Whoever finds this part,
shed one fine summer,
should form it into yard art--
the crest of a metal cardinal
or roses at the feet of Our Lady of Guadalupe
Whoever finds this piece along the highway,
honor the miles God knows she traveled,
build a monument to free will
and the fierceness of motherhood,
place it in bright sunlight
and laugh
