AiKIDo Summer Camp for Children at HPUMC
Hyde Park United Methodist Church and Still Point Aikido Center announce a summer AiKIDo camp for children ages 6 though 12, taking place from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. July 7 through 11. With a maximum of twenty participants, children will be introduced to aiki concepts through games and activities designed to foster connectedness, centeredness, and sensitivity. Participants will be introduced to safe falling and tumbling practices, and simple self-defense techniques.

Aikido is a modern martial art that works with forces rather than in conflict with them. It is oriented toward mutual protection as a means of realistic self-defense. Aikido promotes a deeper awareness of self and world, sensitivity to physical and emotional states of others, and the ongoing pursuit of techniques and strategies which engender right living. The ultimate aim of aikido is to establish a more peaceful society and foster better understanding.

Still Point Aikido Center was founded in late 1991 by Ross Robertson Sensei, with most classes being held at Hancock Recreation Center. With more than 24 years of experience practicing his art, Robertson Sensei currently holds the rank of godan, or 5th degree black belt, in Seidokan style Aikido. He has been invited to lead numerous Aikido seminars throughout the United States, and in Japan and Israel.

Robertson Sensei has extensive experience teaching children, including ongoing childrenās classes at Hancock Rec Center, and as part of the after-school programs co-sponsored with Austin Parks and Recreation Department at a number of Austin Elementary Schools. Robertson Sensei will personally oversee every aspect of the AiKIDo Camp program, and will direct the activities himself. One or more experienced assistants will assist with the camp, providing a student/teacher ratio of no more than 10-to-1.

Registration for this exciting summer camp is going on right now. For more information, visit the Still Point Aikido Center web site at www.stillpointaikido.com. Robertson Sensei can be reached by phone at 512/703-8942, or via email at etaison@stillpointaikido.com.
