Mantra

Another call, another email
medical and spiritual updates
on friends in distress,
We share the mantra
Until I know
Until I know
We believe each love
can beat the odds,
will be the one in
a hundred,
live twice, no ten times,
longer than statistics
authorize
Until I know
Until I know
Even when my horoscope says,
exchange hope for reality,
I weigh and balance,
assay the chances.
And what's to say intent
won't dissolve enormous
burdens from those hearts
and bodies?
Until I know
Until I know
No grieving prematurely,
no saying dramatic good-byes,
no turning away from what might be
and missing what is:
the checking in, the laughing,
the nowtime, the best of times
Until I know
Until I know

My Wish for You

This is my wish for you:
May you be happy,
May you be gay,
And may you know a bit of sadness too
For sunshine to break through.
This is my wish.

This is my wish for you:
May you sing cheerily,
May you sing clear.
And may you ever be through song
A bringer of beauty for others.
This is my wish.

This is my wish for you:
May you have courage,
May you have joy.
And may you have such understanding kindness
That you can ease a friend in pain.
This is my wish.
