the onerous burden of detailed zoning requirements. Thanks to the efforts of a few key people within the association and a great deal of help from some dedicated and interested parties, Texas cities were able to hang on to what little power they still have to regulate the size and shape of structures built within their borders. The good news was cheered by all and neighbors expressed thanks to those whose efforts helped defeat the measures.
The store front on 3810 Speedway will go before City Council this week. The Hyde Park Baptist Church has appealed the Historical Commission's designation of Historic Zoning for the building. The appeal, said Penn, will go before Council this week with a valid petition. [Note: Since that time Council has ruled in favor of the Church and denied the historic zoning for the building.] The discussion prompted Hyde Park Planning Team member Karen McGraw to sponsor a motion resolving that the association meet with the Hyde Park Baptist Church and jointly ask the council to delay its vote on the designation until after the Church and the Association could confer on the Church's site plans. The motion passed unanimously.
The old Rowell's Shoe Shop on Duval and Park Blvd. is no more and plans have been filed for some small offices on the site. Anyone wishing to involve themselves in this may contact Karen McGraw on the Hyde Park Planning Team.
Jason Birch     Jason Birch, the owner of Flight Path Cafe met with the association and asked neighbors to review some plans to allow his Cafe a variance for more parking. The request met with a favorable response, although it was pointed out that these types of variances are permanent and that Jason does not himself own the property. A motion was made by Bob Breeze and seconded by Glen Coleman to support Flight Path's request for a variance. The motion was then tabled by Breeze for a month to allow neighbors who have not yet visited Flight Path to drop by and acquaint themselves with this famous Hyde Park watering hole. Neighbors will cast their votes at the July meeting. Anyone wishing to learn more may contact Jason at flightpath@hotmail.org
Bruce Nadig adjourned the meeting and neighbors returned home in time to watch the weather report.
