address. I got the impression that he was concerned and a
bit frustrated with the problems.
Anyway, here are my suggestions for addressing these problems:
1. I would suggest we make a proposal to the city that they
change our recycle day to what is most convenient to them.
2. Hire a company to go through our alleys on a regular basis
so the city cannot complain.
3. And paint our house number on our cans so the owners can be
notified.

Fair Warning on Local Road Projects
Dear Neighbors,
Here is some information on road work planned in the
foreseeable future in and adjacent to the neighborhood
that might be of some interest to Hyde Park residents:
The following information was received from Dennis
Crabill, a Project Manager with the City's Public
Works Department: There are two upcoming 45th Street
projects, one from Division (entrance to Camp Mabry)
up to Lamar Blvd. and another from Lamar Blvd. (including
the Lamar intersection) to Airport Blvd.
Both projects are funded by the 1998 Proposition I Bond
election and will rebuild the street. Neither project will
widen or straighten the street. The majority of the existing
water and wastewater lines in 45th will be replaced during
construction to either avoid conflict with the new street
excavation or to upgrade the lines. Sidewalk will be added
to the north side of 45th street from Highland Terrace to
Burnet Road.
The Speedway project is funded by Capital Metro and will
reconstruct Speedway from Dean Keaton to 46th Street. As
you are aware, Speedway is offset at 31st Street, and 31st
Street will be reconstructed under a separate contract, also
funded by Capital Metro. These projects will not widen
Speedway or 31st Street -- both will be rebuilt between
the existing curbs.
No start dates are yet available on these projects. It is
our understanding that "reconstruct" and "rebuild" mean that
the entire road will be dug up down to the utility pipes
under the road bed and rebuilt entirely as if a completely
new road. This will be similar to the work going on now on
Lamar north of 45th Street.
