Longtime Youth Sports Director at Hancock Bids Adieu

Dear Hyde Park Parents,

I am sad and excited at the same time as I am transferring over to work with Athletics/Youth Sports. I will be working with the "Athletics" division within the Parks and Recreation Dept. and coordinating the youth sports program in conjunction with area sports associations. I have now been at Hancock with many of your children for 7 years. Those seven years have been wonderful and I will always remember your children. It saddens me to leave but at the same time I am excited to help build programs with Athletics/Youth Sports.

It is my hope that you, the parents, have been happy and felt secure with leaving your child here in our different programs such as soccer, camp after school, or special events. I have always tried my best to provide Hancock kids with many activities that were fun and safe. I have enjoyed having the best staff in the "City of Austin" working with your kids. These guys are the best and care for your kids more than you will ever know!

I start my new assignment Monday, June 9. I will be located at 515 S. Pleasant Valley down by Krieg softball fields off of Riverside. If you are ever down that way, drop by or give me a call at my new number (445-6003). Feel free to call me anytime if you ever need anything! Best of luck to you and I will miss all of you!

Sincerely,

Tracy Partin
Former Youth Sports Director,
Hancock Recreation Center

Fire Station Downsizing
...cont'd from page 1

During my visit with the President of the Austin Firefighters Association, Scott Toupin, the point was made clear when he checked on the current status of apparatus availability and over 1/3 of the units in the city had either been on a run or were out of service.
Our property taxes pay 100% for the fire stations. Under Chief Warren's proposal, our level of service will be reduced while the State of Texas and University of Texas (who pay nothing) will remain the same.
Older wooden homes, like many in Hyde Park can burn like dry tinder. We need fire protection with fast response times, capable crews, and effective equipment. Hyde Park has a large population of students and elderly residents. Hyde Park requires the same level of coverage that currently exists -- not less.
I will be meeting with City Council members in the coming weeks to lobby for keeping our fire truck. Please contact me if you will be able to attend a meeting with me.
