the plat map is that it shows the r.ow. and not the curbs, so the only way to determine how much city owned property there is between you and the street is to measure the width of the street and deduct that from the r.o.w. width. Probably the rest is equally divided between opposite sides of the street. Streets in Hyde Park are usually 30 feet wide, but they vary too, so measuring is the only sure way. It'll be a fun thing to do with your roommate or significant other, not to mention a potential way to make the acquaintance of that neighbor you have never actually met, when he comes out to ask what you are doing.

On other fronts, we continue to wait to see what will come of the city's asking for a new trial on the case in which the Hyde Park Baptist Church sued them when the city council withdrew the church's building permit to construct their second parking garage. Also pending is what the always ingenious small developer community will come up with to get around the very, very modestly restrictive rules the council enacted to restrain "Superduplexes". The new rules still allow buildings substantially larger than their neighbors on any lot of at least seven thousand square

feet although occupancy of any new duplex is restricted to not more than six unrelated adults (AKA: students). That aspect was vehemently opposed by city staff who will now have to enforce it. They may need some encouragement. Any one interested in promoting more aggressive enforcement of zoning and other codes should contact Alan Marburger (459-2261), who is organizing a Code Enforcement Committee within HPNA.

Finally, Alan has also graciously agreed to serve again as chairman of a Nominations Committee, which is currently looking for potential candidates for Co-President to present to the September meeting since neither Bruce Nadig nor myself will be continuing in that role.
