Enforcement Committee...
...cont'd from page 1

Neighbors all over Austin have become more and more frustrated with the lack of enforcement of the ordinances that govern the quality of life in our neighborhoods.

The Hyde Park Neighborhood Association has seen that without enforcement, some property owners will continue to flagrantly violate laws that affect their neighbors' property, thus diminishing the character and value of the neighborhood.

Consequently, the Association has decided to do what the City of Austin staff suggested when we established the Neighborhood Conservation Combining District. The Steering Committee is in the process of nominating a committee that would start out by identifiying properties that have ongoing violations of laws and ordinances.. With the help of all the City departments we will try to remedy those violations. Listed below are some of violations that will be pursued and the City departments that are involved:
Abandoned Vehicles---- Police Department
Building without a permit---- Zoning and Planning
Front yard parking---- Planning
Hazardous encroachments into city alleys and right of way---- Public Works
Noise---- Police Department
Stray/lost animals---- Animal Control
Anyone interested in participating on this new committee for code enforcement should contact one of the Association co-presidents.

Denni Blum, a 10-year Hyde Park resident recently held a photo exhibit at Quacks on 43rd street. The photo above is but one example. The exhibit was subsequently moved to the Barnes & Noble at Westlake for the month of July. If you missed the Westlake showing, give Denni a call at 371-7310 and find out where to find the exhibit this month.
