year. Residents near the Intramural Fields (AKA The Iron Forest) can brace themselves for major headaches. On a better note, we are pleased with the flexibility shown thus far by Grande Communications as they expand their service area to include Hyde Park.
Plans for the next Hyde Park Homes Tour are coming together under the leadership of Homes Tour Chairman Alan Marburger. The fate of the Hyde Park Baptist ChurchÕs five-story parking garage remains undecided, with the scales currently tipped in the Church's favor. Stay tuned there. The Neighborhood Association is in good shape financially, and under the guidance of Membership Chairman JP Young, membership is slowly increasing. New member William Cook has agreed to moderate the Yahoo Groups list, and if you or a neighbor are not receiving the Pecan Press at home, please contact us so that we may make arrangements.
By now it should be evident that the strength of our 'Hood is internal, while the challenges ahead seem largely focused on our relationship with the City of Austin. If you do one thing this year for your neighborhood, make it a trip to the polls on March 9th. I call upon each of you to keep the voice of Hyde Park alive. I know better than to ask any of you to talk softly, but it would ease the way for Pam and for myself greatly if all of you would keep the big stick in the City's plain sight.
