Streetcar + horse carriage + entry arch

Covert House, which is featured once again on this years tour. This magnificent home, built in 1897, is one of the finest in Austin. Dr. John and Ann Horan have graciously consented to have their beautifully restored home at 3912 Avenue G on the tour. Also on the tour this year will be the historic Bell House and its recently added gardens and studio. Local horticulturist Jill Nokes and her husband Jack will share their 100 year-old home at 4200 Avenue F with us. Right across the alley from the Nokes' at 4201 Speedway is the Haltom /Kelly House. Moved here in 1995 from Round Rock, it now helps anchor the center of the neighborhood. Richard MacKinnon has agreed to share his home with us for this important event. Since the carriages will be travelling back and forth across Speedway, the Badger House lawn and porch will host music and refreshments, as well as become

a carriage stop for those headed east on the tour. Thanks to Susan Moffat and Nick Barbaro for hosting this stop. Heading toward the northwest end of the neighborhood along original sidewalks, tourgoers will visit the 1911 Brownlee House owned by Ted and Christine Huston. Next they will see one of the newest homes in Hyde Park, as Paige and Jaimie Caras will open their newly completed home at 4214 Avenue D for the tour. Just up the street at 4306 Avenue D Heidi Schrab has kindly decided to let us feature the new remodel and addition that she is completing to our long- time neighbor Doris Crane's house. One of the best bungalows on what is referred to as "bungalow block" will round out this year's tour -- namely, Maureen and Brendan O'Connor at 4214 Avenue C have invited their neighbors to share their enjoyment of this neighborhood by opening their home to the public. These hospitable homeowners all deserve a tremendous thank you from all of us. Their spirit and generosity are what makes a neighborhood great.
The tour will begin at the parking lot of the Hyde Park Church of Christ at 4301 Avenue B. There will be exhibits at the church and along the way. We have much to celebrate. Thirty years is something to be proud of and the fact that over 300 neighbors and friends will volunteer their time and energy is inspirational. Tell everyone you see to come and volunteer if you can. You will be rewarded for your spirit. To volunteer, e-mail alan@mcgrawmarburger.com or call 459-2261.
