Most people who use discussion groups choose to have each individual email sent to them right away. However, with Yahoo! Groups you have some additional options:
- Individual emails
- Daily digest of all messages in a day
- Special notices only
- No email. In this case you must read the messages at the Web site.
- You can also choose whether or not to receive emails in HTML or plain text.
Replying
Sending a public reply to a message is also easy. Just
reply to the message in your inbox.
If you want to send a personal reply to just the author
of a message, you will have to copy their email address from the original
message and paste it into your reply message.
Unfortunately mailing lists do not work the same as normal
mail to a group of people. The feature of some mail programs to "reply to all"
or just "reply (to author)" does not work with discussion groups. No matter
what you do, the message is posted to be sent to everybody in the group. If
you just want to send to the author, you have to address the message
manually. If you make a mistake, it is not a problem because the moderator
will simply return your message to you.
Hyde Park Web Site
The HydeParkAustin discussion group and HPNA web site
serve different purposes, but they both link to each other. The Yahoo!
Group described in this message is for online discussion, while the HPNA
web site contains the online version of the newsletters and other information.
Moderation
The group is currently moderated, so messages will not
appear until they are approved. The moderator checks email frequently, so
messages will be posted quickly. The reason for moderating the group,
instead of posting messages immediately, is to ensure that every message
is appropriate to send to everyone. The most common reason for rejecting
a message is when someone accidentally sends a personal reply to the
entire neighborhood.
Inviting Friends
We need to sign up more participants for the group.
The more people signed up, the more useful it is for everyone. Anyone with
an interest in Hyde Park can join the group.
There are two ways to sign up: join from the main page of
the group, be invited by a moderator. If you have a list of friends you'd
like to invite, you can send them to the moderator: just send an email to
HydeParkAustin@YahooGroups.com.
