May Meeting Minutes
T
he May HPNA meeting welcomed many new and return faces.
We want to encourage
everyone to come out to the meetings that take place the first Monday
of every month at 7:00 P.M. in the Hyde Park Methodist Church auditorium at
40th and Speedway. Meetings typically last an hour and a half and are full
of current information and news about what's going on, literally, in your
back yard and around town.
Recap on the May meeting minutes:
Well, we just might have set a record for the shortest HPNA meeting, at
least the shortest on my watch. Their were two no-shows on the agenda
that cut the meeting time but a few of us remedied the extra free time
by walking down to Dolce Vida for some good conversation.

Hyde Park Homes Tour 2004
L
et's Party! How much fun can a homes tour be? This year will celebrate 30 years of dedication to neighborhood preservation by the Hyde Park Neighborhood Association.
Some of us have raised our kids here and have seen them
leave and then return to live again in Hyde Park. We must be doing
something right. We also are seeing new families coming to the
neighborhood every day. The homes tour this year is for the kid in all
of us. It will be a party, a festival of achievement, for a neighborhood
that has risen from one of deterioration to one of prestige. On behalf
on the Hyde Park Neighborhood Association, I would like to invite one
and all to join in this celebration.
June 19th and 20th will see Hyde Park turn back the
clock. All volunteers are asked to wear vintage clothes from the past
100 years. The construction dates of featured homes range from 1892 to
2004. Musicians will be joined by storytellers who will entertain with
stories of Hyde Park. Artists will display their work. The Robert E. Lee

Elementary PTA will host a bake sale. All of the churches in Hyde
Park, along with others from around Austin, are adding their spirit
by providing docents and storytellers as well as needed restrooms
and parking. The centennial photo " Hyde Park: Life on the Avenues,"
can be viewed at several locations along the route. The Tannehill
House at 4010 Avenue F will host the section of the exhibit entitled
"Churches and Schools," and the Halton-Kelley House at 4201 Speedway
will host the section entitled "Elisabet Ney and Friends." The Meredith
Building/Hyde Park MarketPlace at 4101 Guadalupe will host the sections
entitled "Businesses and Street Life." These sections, along with
historic maps of Austin and Hyde Park, will be on view in the public
space outside New World Deli two weeks before and after the tour.
