May Meeting... ...cont'd from page 1
Homes Tour Update: Alan Marburger brought a guest with him this month to update the Association on the current Homes Tour that is in the works. His guest, Hervey Lazenby of 42nd and Ave. C, is the oldest resident minister in Hyde Park, as well as the oldest member of the UT Alumni Marching Band. Hervey and Alan came dressed for the times, as long as by "times" you mean early 1900Ős, to illustrate some of the authentic attire that will be accompanying this year's tour. Many of the volunteers this year will be dressed in period attire to embellish the "historic" element of the tour. This year's tour promises to be one of the best ever, with horse drawn carriages, artisans, and musicians along the length of the tour. There will be much to do and see. Please spread the word and invite your friends to come out. Alan is coordinating this massive project and is still looking for volunteers. If anyone is interest please contact him at 459-2261, alan@mcgrawmarburger.com. Austin Fire Fighters Association: Jack Marrirey and his lovely daughter Katie came out to encourage those in the Hyde Park community to vote for the collective bargaining option on the May 15th ballot. This collective bargaining allows the Austin Fire Fighters Association to negotiate their salary. Austin is one of the biggest cities in Texas that does not yet have collective bargaining among the fire fighters. West Campus Densification: The city's Planning Commission voted eight to zero for the proposed West Campus Densification plans. The current plan calls for an increase in density to the area directly west of the UT campus in hopes of revitalizing this area, increasing the number of students that are able to live in this convenient location to campus, and hopefully concentrate the "student housing" into a general area. See y'all next month, and bring your neighbor to the meeting with you!
