A
re you interested in a rewarding experience that will provide you with
an opportunity to positively impact people's lives?
Austin State Hospital is recruiting partners...we
invite dogs and their owners to participate in an Animal Assisted
Activities Program. This program will help the patients of the
Austin State Hospital step away from their mental illness and reconnect
with the community. We will provide
the training and the opportunity
to certify yourself and your dog to provide animal assisted activities
for people in need at Austin State Hospital.
The following information will help guide your
decision.
Obedience Requirements of the AKC/CGC Test:
- Appearance and Grooming - The dog must ap-
pear well groomed, clean and must permit a stranger
to groom him.

a loose leash, doesn't have to "heel".
- Walk through a Crowd - Exercise is done in a

that he/she strains at the lead or shows resentment.
- Sit for Exam - Dog must allow a stranger to
approach him/her and pat him/her, may not exhibit
shyness or resentment.
