pole at 45th and Guadalupe Not Above My Back Yard
Dear Editor,

I agree with Larry Freilich that the new power poles are great ugly brutes (Pecan Press, Dec. 2004). However, Austin Energy dutifully brought the project to a H.P.N.A. meeting and I believe it received the membership's endorsement. Selfishly, there is at least one other good reason to support structures in Hyde Park. Currently, major north-south Austin Energy power lines run in the alley between Speedway and Ave. F. Much has been written about the possible perils of living under large power lines, and those in the alley are 30' from my house and many others. So it is a relief to have the replacement megapoles in a lower density location.
