Austin Groups for the Elderly Dedicates Founder's Garden

A ustin Groups for the Elderly (AGE) recently dedicated a new garden, honoring one of its founders, Bert Kruger Smith, who died in July. The garden, located at the northeast corner of 38th and Home Streets, just west of the AGE building, was dedicated on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, in conjunction with Mrs. Smith's birthday.

The idea for the garden grew from the roots of a tree that had been planted on the property several years ago in honor of Mrs. Smith's birthday friends and family members wanted to create a special place that would commemorate Mrs. Smith's vision of touching lives. Now, a flowering vine along the historical fence line and a granite pathway lead to a bench and legacy walkway, set among evergreen shrubs in the garden.
AGE is a 19-year-old 501c3 not-for-profit social service agency whose mission is to empower caregivers, the elderly and their families through education, advocacy, resources and support.
