Homes Tour 2005: "Front Porch Friendly"
T
hat will be the theme for this year's Homes Tour on Father's Day
Weekend, June 18 and 19. Hyde Park Neighborhood Association
would like to welcome everyone far and wide to join this year's Homes
Tour on the neighborhood's most celebrated weekend. Once again
carriages will travel the streets of Hyde Park and people will stroll the
sidewalks from house to house visiting with neighbors and friends and
welcoming them with our front porch friendliness.
Although the stroll from one house to the other along the route
will be easy, there will also be the added attraction of horse-drawn
carriages to carry guests. This year the carriages will be available at no
cost to tourgoers.
The tour will once again diagonally cross the Hyde Park National
Register District, but this year the tour will start at Baker School at
40th and Avenue B, and go to the Elisabet Ney Museum. Built in
1911, by the Austin School District, it was Hyde Park's school. Now

programs , this starting point will enable us to involve many of the
schools that our children attend. Children's activities and
entertainment will happen along the complete route, but special events
will happen at Baker School and the Elisabet Ney Museum.
The first house on the tour will be the Sears King House at 209
W. 39th, Built in the 1890's. Reverend Henry M. Sears was Chaplain
