In Memoriam: Tasha, aka Desert Dawg
One night Zoe and Larry and I were outside by the fire after dinner.
Out of the blue, Zoe told us to look up at the stars, that stars were
really the spirits of dead people and animals and that they became
stars so that we could always see them and remember them and
they could see and remember us.
On Feb.7,2005, at around 5 pm, Tasha (also known as Tashi and
Desert Dawg), my best dog pal of 13+ years, became one of those
brightly shining stars.
Tasha had a good life, climbing the Hollywood Hills
and California desert peaks, camping at the beach, playing
frisbee and ball with her dog friends at the Baker School,
wrestling with her Kitty Coo, and her Favorite, "tick,
tick tick" (a tickle game). She was by my side during earthquakes,
bad dates, and tornado warnings. She was by my side and accepted
(okay, approved) Larry's wedding proposal to me, Zoe coming into
our lives, cats as part of the pack and even the chickens. She truly
had a big heart and just about everyone (and certainly any puppy)
who met her was touched by her in some way.
Tasha became very ill in her old age and it became apparent that
she was in excruciating pain and lost the ability to move, and be
happy. Both Larry and I were with her holding, stroking, singing
and talking to her in her last moments at the vet's office. She now
resides peacefully in our garden, close to her chickens and near her
favorite resting spot.
