swimming pool, that the City close Avenue G between
44th and 45th Streets during the summer months. The last major topic of discussing was brought by Don Iden, Vice President of the Ridgetop Neighborhood Association and Roberto Gonzales, a planner with Cap Metro. They addressed us about the various alternatives for the No. 15 Cap Metro bus route. Concern has been raised about the current route, which passes in front of the elementary school on Caswell Avenue and 51st Street, and the congestion it causes at the school. Different alternative routes were discussed such as moving the route to Airport Boulevard or shifting the part of the route currently on Caswell Avenue to Red River. There was lively discussion about the various alternatives, and all agreed that the idea needed a great deal of work to try to reach a resolution acceptable to the majority of those interested. There will be more news and discussion on this topic at a later date.

The meeting concluded with a few announcements.
John noted that there is still no news of the fate of the
Austin State Hospital, which has been recommended for
closure. Stan Kozinsky, Chairman of the Development Review
Committee, mentioned that houses on 48th and 47th
Streets had been demolished to make way for something
new. Alan Marburger announced that the Homes Tour
Committee would begin meeting monthly on the second Wednesday
of each month. Contact him at 459.2261
for additional information or to volunteer. Alan also reminded
us about the meeting on January 20 regarding the
Neighborhood Conservation Combining District for the
north neighborhood. After a lively, informative meeting,
John adjourned the January meeting of HPNA.
