Alley Article -- No Fooling?
Dear Editor,
Would you reassure me that the lead article in the Pecan Press
("Miracle Product" Slated For Hyde Park Alleys) is an April Fool? I
have to believe it is. But it's within the realm of possibility--after all,
parking lot and driveway sealcoat contain 25-30% coal tar, which
a known carcinogen (I recently completed a report on these for the
city, and Councilmember Slusher is trying to get them banned), yet
hundreds of millions of gallons of the stuff is applied every year to
parking lots and driveways (and even playgrounds, God forbid) all
over the country.
Thanks,
-- Barbara J. Mahler, Research Hydrologist
U.S. Geological Survey
Editor's Note: Ms. Mahler was not the only reader who was temporarily
(April) fooled, and wrote to us requesting reassurance in that regard;
consider yourselves reassured!
P.S. Our apologies to Rollo Treadway, author of last month's piece
about Lkwid-Krust®, for our failure to follow his instructions to
include the trademark insignia after every reference to the product. We
regret whatever difficulties this oversight may have occasioned for Mr.
Treadway.
