In order to understand the sequence of color changes during the life of a house, there are on-site techniques by which one may obtain this information, if desired.
One of the most significant considerations in the paint selection process is concern for color affinity. What color should go with an adjacent color ? Color chips can be used to finalize a reasonable decision. Wall colors are generally subdued while trim colors are usually more expressive. However, the problem of selecting colors from the multitude of hues and shades available in the paint store is challenging. Samples of colors selected should be painted on areas of the building for your approval, then adjusted if necessary. Of course, many homeowners are familiar with this procedure..and it is worth the effort. We live with our decisions for years to come.
An inspiring Hyde Park restoration with an excellent color selection has been recently completed at 4401 Avenue H. across from the Ney Museum. Jay Farrell is the restoration architect. Peter Maxson is the architectural historian involved. What has been achieved here is a powerful understatement... an elegant example that enhances our outstanding neighborhood.
