closed so that it can serve as a staging area for utility and road construction. Mary Carolyn suggested making this one-block closure of Avenue G permanent, thereby joining our two adjacent parks Shipe Park and the grounds of "Formosa," the Elisabet Ney Museum. Further, she suggested that a "Paseo" concept be developed or that a small amphitheater to be built on this area. The "Paseo" would form a gateway joining the original Hyde Park south of 45th the North Hyde Park "Annex," and would be a pedestrian and bicycle-friendly corridor. Mary Carolyn asked that the neighborhood consider supporting this effort. Alan Marburger noted that this idea was part of our Neighborhood Plan and could take about five years of working with the City of Austin. Alan suggested supporting the idea, while recognizing that such an effort would take time and money. Some neighbors noted that, while this was an interesting idea, there may be serious traffic concerns created by closing the street permanently. The members voted to support Mary Carolyn's efforts to continue looking into these ideas. Denise adjourned the information-filled meeting at approximately 8:25.
