Crime ReportDue to space constraints, we'll have to wait until next month to publish an analysis of "critical incidents" like the recent shooting of Daniel Rocha by an Austin Police Department officer. Meanwhile and closer to the neighborhood, in the past month the Hyde Park area experienced three family disturbances, four thefts, four instances of criminal mischief and nine incidents of vehicle break-ins. Each of the other listed offenses occurred only once during the past 30 days. May 16 was a particularly active day for vehicle burglaries, with three separate incidents. In the 4500 block of Avenue B, a residence had a vehicle burglarized just past midnight. In the 4400 block of Avenue A, two owners experienced a similar fate just minutes from each other shortly after 6 p.m. The other six incidents occurred in the following blocks: 4600 Avenue G, 4400 Duval St., 200 39th St., 4500 Speedway, 5000 Evans Avenue and 4500 Guadalupe St. Most of these offenses happened in parking lots and garages, with homes reporting only two incidents. Reports of theft were lodged by three separate residents and one business. On June 2, a home was hit in the 300 block of 39th St. Another occurred in the 4200 block of Speedway June 5 and the third incident happened June 12 in the 400 block of 39th St. A business in the 4400 block of Duval St. also had items stolen June 14, while another non-residential facility in the 3800 block of Avenue B was burglarized May 26. In the middle of the afternoon of May 23, someone absconded with a bicycle from a residence located in the 4100 block of Avenue D. Days earlier, a vehicle was stolen in the 5000 block of Avenue H. Criminal mischief continues to be a problem, but certainly not as much as in previous months. Vandals targeted the following streets: the 4800 block of Eilers Avenue, 41st Street, 4200 block of Avenue A and the 100 block of 39th Street. On May 24 about 10:30 p.m., someone was busted for drug paraphernalia in the 700 block of 51st St. A few days later, officers responded to an aggravated assault at a residence in the 4300 block of Avenue G. Meanwhile, family disturbances were reported from residents in the 4000 block of Avenue A, the 4800 block of Rowena St. and the 800 block of 49th Street.
