An Opportunity for Hyde Park?
...cont'd from page 12

(b). A small amphitheater nestled into the slope that rises to the Ney grounds for story-telling, performances, other events.

The "Paseo" would form a gateway, joining Hyde Park with Hyde Park North. This pedestrian and bicycle-friendly corridor could encourage further connections with the university campus and beyond, such as those projected in the Central Austin Combined Neighborhood Plan. The current closure of Avenue G through our parks provides an opportunity for the city to initiate a transportation survey to determine changed traffic patterns. Of course, the expertise of the relevant city departments would be mandatory.

Submitted by Mary Carolyn and Gene George, June, 2005

You can read more about the meeting in the minutes. The proposal was later posted to the HydeParkAustin Yahoo! group. As moderator of the group, I created a "lightning poll" to measure neighbors' first reactions:

Poll Question: What's your first reaction to the proposal to connect Shipe Park to the Ney Museum by closing one block of Avenue G south of 45th?
