An Opportunity for Hyde Park? ...cont'd from page 12
There were 52 total votes, or about 20% of discussion group members. Over 50% have a very positive first impression of the idea. I tossed in the top and bottom responses to put in some extreme views, so it is interesting that so many people liked the top item. The idea was to change the stop signs so that a bike can ride north-south without stopping or dodging cars (except at 45th). Some subtle techniques are used to prevent cars from zooming down this new boulevard. This is my personal summary of some points in the following discussion. A number of neighbors were concerned about where the traffic would go. Others were concerned about parking, and suggested that some parking near 45th be included in the proposal. There has also been some discussion about the hints in the proposal for making changes to the Ney Museum grounds however, these suggestions are not necessarily central or essential to the proposal, since simply linking the Ney Museum grounds to Shipe park would make the area feel like one large park. Any proposal for Avenue G should focus on changes to Shipe and use of the street itself, but should not include any proposals for the Ney grounds.
