“Keep Hyde Park Weird” at Hyde Park’s
33rd Annual Fire Station Festival

Have you had your fill of tire stabbings, house demolitions and break-ins, tree and yard mutilations, peeping toms, panhandlers, petty thefts, bike-riding flashers, and arrogant dog walkers?  Are you tired of seeing stories of your neighborhood and its urban challenges on the evening news?  Are you starting to think that Leander and Pflugerville are looking better and better?

Get control of yourself!!!!  What you really need is an excuse to party with your neighbors and remember just why we choose to live in Hyde Park.  The 33rd Annual Hyde Park Fire Station Festival is right around the corner, and it couldn’t come at a better time.

This year’s festival will be bigger than ever thanks to our many neighborhood underwriters and sponsors, but what will make this year better is YOUR participation.  Start planning now to join your friends and neighbors on Sunday, October 21 from 4-6 p.m.

The Festival kicks off with an ECLECTIC PARADE from Shipe Park to appeal to the child in us all.  Get creative in that special “Keep Hyde Park Weird” spirit.  Decorate your bikes, strollers, wagons, pets, vehicles, movable objects, and yourselves.  Premier your Halloween costume.  Bring musical instruments or noisemakers to play along with the marching band or to your own drummer.  Get your friends, neighbors, and miscellaneous groups to participate.  Remember, this is Hyde Park.  We’re a creative neighborhood, and we know how to have a good time.

If you don’t want to be in the parade, then you must make certain to find a prime viewing spot.  This is one parade you don’t want to miss.  The parade will travel east from the park through the neighborhood – at least as far as the law will allow – and end up at Austin Fire Station #9.  When you see the tents east of the fire station, you’ll know you’re at the right place.  There you will find food, music, family friendly entertainment, tours of the fire station and trucks, information booths, and prizes for costumes and creative decorations in children, adult, and pet categories.

Be sure to bring a small amount of cash with you, since there will be HPNA membership renewals and fundraising activities from various neighborhood groups.

Rain or shine, a great time will be had by all.  Join in to Keep Hyde Park Weird.
