Annual Events

The Hyde Park year is full of fun, community-building events. Follow the neighborhood newsletter, the Pecan Press, for articles about upcoming events and details about time and location.

Join Friends of Shipe Park and the Austin Parks Foundation for It’s My Park Day! On that day, Hyde Parkers join together to clean-up and beautify Shipe Park by spreading Dillo Dirt and mulch, raking leaves, aerating tree roots, and painting tables and benches.

The event is held on the first Saturday in March.

Hop on over to Shipe Park for some bunny fun times at the Hyde Park Egg Scramble, where kids have the opportunity to scramble for eggs and then enjoy the bounce house, the balloon animals, and the face painter. The Hyde Park Neighborhood Association welcomes all the kids in the ‘hood to participate!

The Egg Scramble takes place on the Saturday morning of Easter weekend.

Join Friends of Shipe Park for a Pool Party and Movie Night in June! It’s a great opportunity to splash in the pools and mingle with friends. There are plenty of activities just for kids, while grownups enjoy the music. And everyone enjoys the family-friendly movie under the stars.

The party takes place every year in the middle of June. Watch the Pecan Press for the date of the 2016 Pool Party and Movie Night.

Cool off with friends and neighbors at the annual Ice Cream Social! Hyde Park Neighborhood Association volunteers scoop the ice cream, and neighbors socialize and share news while they enjoy it. This is a great time to join the Association or to renew your membership so you can vote on new officers in October.

The Ice Cream Social always happens on the first Monday in August.

There’s no shortage of good times at the Fire Station Festival, the event that celebrates the saving of Fire Station #9!

Costumed marchers, decorated cars, the fire engine, and the McCallum High School band wind their way from Shipe Park to Fire Station No. 9, led by the incoming and outgoing officers of the Hyde Park Neighborhood Association carrying the official HPNA banner. Enjoy fun, food, music, and games. There are activities for kids of all ages – arts and crafts, henna tattoos, photo booth. Neighborhood churches and restaurants join in the fun. Prizes are awarded for the best costumes – including the best pet! This is another great time to join or renew your membership in the neighborhood association.

The Fire Station Festival takes place on a selected Sunday afternoon each October. Watch the Pecan Press for the date.

Take a stroll through the historic Hyde Park neighborhood and peek inside some of the lovely homes on the Hyde Park Homes Tour.  For 39 years, the Hyde Park Neighborhood Association has presented a selection of beautiful restored houses for visitors to enjoy. Each year, the selection of houses is different; in 2015, the theme of the tour was “A Celebration of Small Houses.”  The year 2016 marks the 40th anniversary of the tour, so the Austin community can expect a special selection of houses in celebration!

The tour is held yearly on a selected weekend in early November, although some years it it held in Spring. Watch the Pecan Press for the date and details of the tour.

Join the Hyde Park Neighborhood Association for a evening to celebrate what makes our neighborhood such a special place to live. Whether the party is held at one of Hyde Park’s large Victorians, at the Elisabet Ney Museum, or another special location, it’s always an opportunity to visit with neighbors and salute the season.

The celebration is held every year in early December. Watch the Pecan Press for the date and location.
