City of Austin's "How Do I Dispose Of..." Directory
Box Board: There is a large yellow recycle bin in the Hyde Park Methodist Church parking lot for box board (cereal and shoe boxes) and other types of paper that the City of Austin does not accept.
Ecology Action at Ninth Street and IH-35 accepts all standard recyclable items, PLUS: foil, scrap metal, phone books, printer cartridges and cell phone batteries.
Hazardous Waste - including batteries, fluorescent bulbs, paint, oils, chemicals... Take it to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility drop off site. Hours: The first Saturday of the month from 7 a.m. to Noon, and Tuesdays and Wednesdays Noon to 6 p.m. Map
Cycled Plastics (www.cycledplastics.com, (512) 339-8787, 10200 Mckalla Pl, near UT’s JJ Pickle campus), accepts plastics 1-6 including block styrofoam (ie. the type that comes in computer boxes, etc.), bubble wrap, plastic shrink wrap, plastic grocery bags, dry cleaner bags, and plastic pots that plants come in. Drop off at their North Austin location is M-F, 7am-3pm. (They do NOT accept styrofoam packing peanuts or styrofoam insulation materials. )
Styrofoam peanuts are accepted at many UPS Stores (including the one accross the street from Central Market), also Tesoros Trading Company at their 1500 South Congress location or at their warehouse, located at 502 Baylor (near the downtown Whole Foods).
