Hyde Park Historic District
Most Hyde Park residents and property owners are aware that Hyde Park was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. However, the recent Property Owner Survey conducted by the Hyde Park Neighborhood Association NCCD Committee revealed that most of the respondents, although interested in preservation, did not know the status of their property within the district.

The Hyde Park and Shadow Lawn Historic District maps indicate a designation for each resource;

Contributing Resources (Total of 273)

    May display National Register of Historic Places plaque (see application).
    Tax Incentives for restoration of income-producing property*

      Contributing Residential Properties should retain their original exterior sheathing and porch trim and materials. The_ application of asbestos, vinyl, aluminum or any other synthetic siding over the original exterior walls is regarded as insensitive to a dwelling's historic character and proper maintenance, and therefore disqualifies the building for listing as a Contributing property. The replacement of wooden porch floors and supports likewise compromises historic integrity, as porches usually display significant amounts of distinguishing architectural detailing on residential structures. One of the more common alterations is the installation of fabricated metal porch supports. Since the tapered box columns of bungalows are an extremely important visual element of this style, such a change represents a severe modification to a structure's historic appearance and justifies its exclusion from the contributing category. More superficial alterations, such as the application of nonhistoric colors or paint schemes or the installation of a metal roof, are less severe compromises of the structure's historic integrity and do not, by themselves, warrant rejectlon of the building as a Contributing element. **
Non-Contributing Resources (Total 237)
      Noncontributing Properties have not achieved 50 years of age or detract from a district's historic character. Such properties must comprise fewer than 50 percent of all buildings in a district. This category includes historic buildings and their ancillary structures that have lost their integrity through severe exterior alterations, as discussed above, or have been relocated to a new site within the last 50 years. Post-1941 structures comprise the other major grouping.within the Noncontributing category; most of these display physical characteristics that have little in common with the prevailing historic character in the area. **
Potentially Contributing (150 of the 237 Non-Contributing)
    May qualify for reclassification to contributing status if alterations are reversed.*
      ... 150 historic resources classified as Noncontributing resources because of compromised historic integrity. Reclassification to Contributing status may be considered for these resources if alterations are reversed. Any rehabilitation or restoration work should be completed in compliance with the U.S. Secretary of the Interior Standards for Rehabilitation, copies of which are available from the Texas Historical Commission. **
