On Monday Feb. 6th we hold our general meeting. Come learn about greening historic homes and what the Pecan Street Project is doing.

On Tuesday Feb. 7th the Austin Neighborhoods Council Central Sector breakfast is at 8 AM and then after work the Region I Baker/Ida District Representatives will host a Commander’s Forum from 6:30– 8:00 PM on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at the Austin Cornerstone Church, 1101 Reinli St. Topics will include crime statistics, Graffiti/Gang Unit presentation, burglary interview as well as a question and answer session with the District Representatives and Command Staff.

The HPNA game night is on Wednesday Feb. 8th.

On Saturday Feb. 11th from 7:00-9:00 PM neighboring Heritage Neighborhood Association is holding a Candlelight Procession for Esme Barrera and All Victims of Violence. It will start at the My Cleaners Parking lot at 3100 Guadalupe where there will be a vigil in honor of Esme Barrera and victims and survivors of violence. This will be followed by a candlelight procession through the Heritage Neighborhood and a speak-out session where participants who want to will share experiences, thoughts, feelings, music or poetry about the recent violence and what we can do about it.

Hazardous Waste Collection at Shipe Park

Come properly recycle all of your automotive fluids, cleaning products, fertilizers, paint, pesticides, solvents, light bulbs, and batteries at Shipe Park on the first Saturday of each month. February 4th at Shipe Park from 8:30 to 11 a.m.

Hancock Golf Course

At the limited-attendance meeting the Golf Enterprise Fund and the Parks and Recreation Department held at Red River Church a couple months ago attendees asked a lot of questions that Golf and PARD said they would get back to us with answers to. Here is a letter from the PARD director and a briefing we were sent with answers to some of the questions that were asked:

We have received notice that the Division of Recreational Sports at UT has applied for a road closure that would impact some streets in our neighborhood on the morning of Saturday April 14th. Here is the letter and map describing the closure:

The deadline for input to the city regarding this closure is Valentine’s Day.

Neighborhood Game Nights

Game Night sponsored by HPNA
2nd Wednesday of every other month
4110 Avenue G 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Sponsored by HPNA and hosted by Barbara Gibson, Game Night begins February 8^th at Barbara’s home, 4110 Avenue G. Hyde Park Neighborhood Association will provide snacks (got to keep up the fuel for that competitive edge). Bring your beverage of choice and any games you want us to play.

Adult games being considered are charades, Mexican Train, dominos, hearts, bridge, spades, backgammon, chess, and Pictionary. (Not poker. Not bingo.)

Elise Krentzel will lead children in games appropriate for their ages. As the weather warms, Elise has plans for backyard games on a large concrete patio in Barbara’s back yard.

Game Night occurs regularly the 2^nd Wednesday of every other month. The dates for 2012 are February 8th, April 11th, June 13th, August 8th, October 10th, December 12^th.
