Historic Hyde Park Homes Tour

An annual event since (sometime between) 1975 and 1977, residents of Hyde Park have opened up their historic homes to visitors. Organized by volunteers as a ticketed event for over 50 years, it’s the Hyde Park Neighborhood’s largest annual fundraiser.

Each year’s Homes Tour features a list of 5-10 homes with historic significance to Austin and Hyde Park. Guests can tour the homes on their schedule over a Sunday afternoon, normally in mid-November.

Volunteers Wanted

We’re always looking for volunteers before and during the annual Homes Tour — it’s both fun and helpful in running the event across Hyde Park. Volunteer time can be as little as an hour to as much time as you can spare; volunteers receive a free ticket to the tour. Interested?

Jobs to be done can include:

  • House Tour Docents help guide visitors through the house and are assigned a “station” where they can share interesting historical, architectural, or restoration tidbits.

  • Volunteer shifts are two hours long and volunteers receive a free ticket to the tour.

  • Volunteers are given a 1-2 hour orientation at the house before the tour and you will be provided with all you need to know.

  • Tour Headquarters Volunteers help check tour-goers in, sell tickets, distribute armbands and tour booklets.

  • Volunteer shifts are two hours long and volunteers receive a free ticket to the tour.

  • Homes Tour Support involves everything from running errands during daytime business hours to making docent name tags and delivering posters and other promotional materials to locations around Austin.
