Volunteer With HPNA

We could use a hand, or more.

The Hyde Park Neighborhood Association relies on the efforts of volunteers. Everyone is welcome to sign up; it’s a great way to contribute to your neighborhood, often without a huge commitment of time.

Contact us and we’ll let you know what kinds of help we need in planning and managing community events we present and sponsor. Monthly commitments vary by time of year. These can include the Spring Bunny Parade, the annual Fire Station Festival, periodic Ice Cream Socials, the Holiday Parade and party at the Ney, and others.

To raise your hand as a general volunteer, join our low—volume Google Groups email list. We’ll send out periodic requests to this list for help; just reply whenever you’ve got the time.

Specific Needs Include:

Homes Tour

Our annual Homes Tour is always in need of volunteers, from docents posted in historic homes, to help with promotion, registration, and other administrative needs. Help out and you’ll likely score yourself a free ticket.

Membership

Help us signing up members at events and maintaining our membership rolls (with an online tool we’ll teach you). A great role for anyone who enjoys getting out and meeting people in the community at our monthly meetings, special events, and more. Monthly commitment is likely about an hour.

Web Site Editorial/Maintenance

Comfortable in Squarespace, or familiar with similar content management tools (Wordpress, Wix, etc.)? We could use assistance with periodic updates to our site. We can train just about anyone comfortable with a computer so don’t worry if you’ve never edited a site before. Monthly time commitment is likely less than an hour.

Pecan Press Delivery

Would you like to be part of the dedicated group of people who walk the neighborhood each month to deliver the Pecan Press? Contact us to learn which routes have availability — generally they’re a block or few. Monthly time commitment is usually less than an hour.

Monthly Meeting Tech Support

We broadcast our monthly meeting from the Griffin School via Zoom, allowing members to join us remotely. This role involves arriving 30 minutes before the monthly meeting to connect the Griffin School’s AV system to Zoom and help run the meeting (monitor online chats, troubleshoot communications issues, etc). Don’t worry: we can train anyone familiar with video chats — it’s easier than it looks. Monthly commitments is about two hours on the first Mondays of most months — you don’t need to sign up for all of them.
