Historical Landmarks
Visitors are often drawn to Hyde Park for its historic homes, but what they encounter is a neighborhood shaped by decades of change and sustained by long-term preservation efforts.
Through the dedication of residents and community advocates, many homes have been restored to reflect their original character and architectural detail. Hyde Park features a wide range of styles, including late 19th-century Queen Anne and Classical Revival houses, as well as early 20th-century bungalows and mid-century ranch homes. Numerous properties in the neighborhood have been designated City of Austin Historic Landmarks. Each year, the Hyde Park Neighborhood Association’s Historic Hyde Park Homes Tour highlights this architectural diversity, often featuring designated landmarks and notable historic residences.
In addition to the Elisabet Ney Museum and the former Fire Station, forty-two structures in Hyde Park - forty-one houses and one commercial building - have received City of Austin Historic Landmark designation. Many of these properties are also listed in the National Register of Historic Places and recognized as Texas Historic Landmarks.
