Volunteering in Hyde Park

As an all-volunteer organization, we depend on the collective efforts of people interested in giving something back to the community. From helping out with a range of community events (Homes Tour, Bunny Parade, Fire Station Festival, etc.) to assisting with administrative work (Membership, Technology, Meeting support, etc.).

None of the jobs require heavy time commitments. Many are occasional; once a month or several times a year. The work is a rewarding way to engage with and give back to your community.

Complete the form below — don’t worry, it doesn’t commit you to anything. We’ll be in touch to let you know what’s next. Membership in the HPNA isn’t required.

Opportunites include:

Special Events:
Several times a year, we hold community events. Help out with advance publicity, logistics planning, sponsorships. Or, help out on the day of events: check-ins, logistics, etc.

Homes Tour:

Every year in November, Hyde Park residents open their historic homes. Our annual fund-raiser, upfront help with planning and logistics, then near-event help on sites (check-ins, house docents, etc.) are vital to making the Homes Tour thrive.

Website, Technology, Communications:
Help out with maintaining our site, email lists, etc. Coding skills not necessary, but comfort working with web-based tools and ability to learn new platforms is important.

Membership:
Once a month, checking members in at our general meeting, helping new members join, etc. While not required, willingness to learn our web-based membership software (we’ll train you!) would be helpful.

Pecan Press Distribution:
Once a month, volunteers distribute copies of the Pecan Press newsletter to homes across Hyde Park. Sign up for a block (or two?).

Community Improvement:
Across Hyde Park, teams coordinate periodically to remove graffiti, maintain community spaces (traffic circles), engage in targeted cleanup efforts, etc.

Community Engagement/Policy:
Help inform discussions of local issues, development, zoning, City of Austin, HPNA resolutions, etc.

Administrative (accounting, record-keeping, etc.)
Periodically, we could use help documenting minutes of our meetings, accounting (often around our events), and other non-intensive administrative efforts to keep our non-profit running.
